What were you doing when the earthquake struck?

There I was stretching my hand into a cabinet containing Ramein Noodles when suddenly the cabinet started to move in a swaying motion and I found myself asking "why is the cabinet shaking?" I then thought It was a large vehicle passing but then I realized it was an earthquake.

I knew what it was (yes it did take me a second) since I had experienced an earthquake before. Who can remember the one in 1988? In the late hours one night in 1988 all were asleep except for those of us who were gaming junkies having a hit on our Nintendo (yes I'm old) crack pipe one last time before bed.

I remember three large boxes stack one on top of the other started to rock, but back then I wasn't thinking earthquake I was thinking more like Poltergeist.

Anyway, the part that got to me yesterday was when the two storied full concrete building I was standing in (my home) started to gently sway from side to side with me standing on the veranda watching my neighbors move from the right to the left.

So thats my experience, what was yours?

For those who live under a rock:Map showing earthquake zone
On November 29th. there was an earthquake off the northern cost of Martinique. On November 29th. there was an earthquake off the northern cost of Martinique. The quake's epicentre was 40km from Fort-de-France, Martinique. The effects of the quake were felt as far away as South America.

Re: What were you doing when the earthquake struck?

Well i had just come off the road and was heading back into the office. Parked my car, headed up the stairs and into my office. Some co-workers from Canada were there waiting for me to join a conference call. We were about to dial in when it happened... I thought i was getting a hang over relapse since we were out drinking the night before (somebody had to give them the royal tour of GT :)), then i realised the time and said nahhhhhh cant be...

We looked outside the windows and saw the poles and trees swaying in one direction and the building going in the other :(. I then realise it was an earthquake and told them. Have you guys ever seen white ppl get even whiter? Well i did LOL. The shaking lasted a couple of seconds but all i could think of was "oh fuk, where did I park my car again?" I ran to the window overlooking the parking lot and had a sigh of relief, I was not parked near a tree or pole :)

I then tried calling my family to see if all was well but as i had anticipated GT&T was down, nothing ever works in Guyana eh. I headed back to the office and found my guests chatting with their collegues in Toronto informing them of what just happened, one guy even said he wasnt paid enough for this kind of mental strain LOL. Then they all looked at me and said "SOOOOO SHOULD WE EXPECT A TSUNAMI NOW?"

The rest is panic history ....
