Today I decided to head down to GuyExpo at the Sophia Exhibition Center to see what kind of photos I could get. Since half the visitors to this site reside outside of Guyana I was certain some would appreciate pictures of the exhibition.
I decided to make my way down for 4pm which happens to be the time the gates open on weekdays. I wanted to be there at this time for two very important reasons, the first being lighting, lighting is a key element in any photo and in my opinion natural light is always best and secondly a small crowd, less people mean less chance of someone standing in my way as I try to take a photo.
As I made my way around I noticed the immense amount of Cell phone booths strategically laid out within a whisper of each other, It was obvious GuyExpo did not escape the battle for king of the cellular hill between Digicel and GT&T. While not the most fitting word, I must confess ”redundant” did pop into my mind more than once as I walked by cell phone booth after another.
Of all the booths I visited around the exhibition I only found three Items of interest, the first being the production of white sugar by Guysuco’s Demerara Gold brand of sugar the second, Caribbean containers Inc’s booth showcasing the various cardboard boxes they make from recycled paper for local companies (I don’t think I can express how elated I was to know this sort of recycling was being done locally) and the third, a rum I had never seen or heard of before from Demerara Distillers Limited called El Dorado Single Barrel Rum.
Because of my low interest I wasn't motivated to take many photos and of the 56 photos I did take I think less than 20 are worthy to be posted so I'm going to post and label them in this blog instead of creating a gallery.
I'm almost certain one or two other Guyanese sites would have posted tons of photos but posting photos of people posing with a new cell phone they just bought from Wireless Connectionz or photos of costume jewelery embossed with the words “Made in China” at an exhibition called GuyExpo(rt) is definitely not my style.
So please forgive me if you were looking forward to seeing a lot of photos of GuyExpo on this site, I can't do much when I have little to work with.
