In 2004 the creator of Raval Online, Raval Seojattan, wanted to learn web design because he realized the potential of having such ability even if it was just at the novice level.

After acquiring free web hosting Raval quickly ran into his first problem as a webmaster. He was so focus on building a website that he didn’t realize he did not have anything to build a website about.

Because there was no content to build a site around, the web space went unused. It was not until a friend’s birthday in late December of 2004, he finally had content to build a site around.

His friend’s birth party was a fun and memorable one, high points included a realistically looking bust with bra for a birthday cake, a large birthday hat that said dunce (dunce cap) and Raval’s jello shots made with two much Vodka.  Many were intoxicated by their second jello shot.

Many photos were taken that night and as word started to spread over Yahoo and MSN messengers about the fun and pictures, requests started to pour in for copies.

Since we only had access to 56k internet connections (dialup) it was unrealistic to share the photos. Each photo was larger than 2Mb and the total amount of photos was over 30. It would take more than 5 minutes to transfer one photo.

Raval quickly realized he could use his free web space to share the photos. As time went on more personal photos were added. The site was regarded as a personal web gallery used to share photos with friends and family only.

In mid 2005 Raval decided it was time to get a domain name but his preferred domains names including raval.com were taken. Several alternate domain names were suggested based on his choices including ravalonline.com; he found this to be an acceptable substitute.

By late 2006 Raval had developed an interest for amateur photography and started to take pictures of buildings, events and scenery. As interest in these photos grew he decided to make the site public and to allow anyone interested access its content.

Besides photos, Raval Online now offers users Blogs and Articles. Raval Online will continue to evolve to provide content relating to Guyana and Guyanese.
